The history of CUB FOODS: what is CUB FOODS?
Cub Foods was created by Hooley Supermarkets in 1968. The word CUB means Consumers United for Buying, but it was also the nickname of its founder, Culver Davis Jr. Cub Foods was one of America's first total discount food stores. In 1980 the supermarket chain was bought by SuperValu Inc and began to operate as one of their subsidiaries. After the purchase, Cub Foods began to expand, opening 83 stores in three states. In 2018, the company dropped the “Foods” in their name and rebranded the supermarket chain simply as CUB, remodeling their stores to better suit the needs of modern customers. Today, Cub has hundreds of stores both in Minnesota and Illinois, delivering low prices and quality products through their stores and online marketplaces.
