Food Depot's history began in 1975 with the opening of its first store in Stockbridge, Georgia. The company was founded by Gerald Taylor and Raymond Johnson.

Food Depot was formed following the acquisition of a Stockbridge supermarket called Kenney's Market. At the beginning, the stores were known as Quality. It wasn't until 1988 that the name Food Depot came onto the scene and with it came a new concept of low-cost supermarkets. The success of the emerging Food Depot chain was so good that it quickly expanded and opened new stores throughout the state of Georgia.

Nowadays, Food Depot has more than 40 stores in the Atlanta Metropolitan area, West Georgia, Dublin, Macon areas, and Columbus.
