When was Randalls created?
Randalls was created in 1996 by Robert Randall, R. C. Barclay, and Norman Frewin. Their first two stores were small grocery stores bought from existing businesses and reconverted to fit their business model. By 1980, Randalls already controlled 8% of the market in Houston and was starting an ambitious expansion plan.
In 1990, Randalls already had 42 functioning stores and had become one of the fastest-growing companies in Houston. During the following years, Randalls expanded and opened new locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin, replicating the design of every other Randalls. The company also created their own website to expand their reach.
In 2014, after a series of negotiations, Randalls was acquired by Albertsons, kickstarting a realignment of the brand to better suit the needs of their head corporation.
