The story of Redner’s Market begins in 1940, when Earl Redner, at the age of 15, started his career in the food business with the Grand Union Tea Company in Middletown, New York. In March 1970, Earl and his wife, Mary, bought two small supermarkets near Reading, Pennsylvania. After enjoying success from the very start, they decided to expand the company. In 1975, to share the success of the company with the employees, Redner formed an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Redner’s was the first supermarket in Pennsylvania to be employee owned. The chain continued growing to this day.
