When was STRACK & VAN TIL created?
The history of Strack & Van Til begins in 1930 with the opening of a grocery store called Royal Blue, founded by Meinhard Nissen and Ernie Strack in Griffith, Indiana.
In 1936 Nick Van Til joined the company and in 1946 they opened a second store. In the following years, Van Til grew the business, until 1960 when Ernie Strack and Nick Van Til became partners and opened the first store under the name Strack & Van Til.
In the following decades, the chain expanded throughout the state of Indiana with a large number of new stores. In 2018 Strack & Van Til had a total of 38 stores. However, due to a process of crisis and reform of the company, they had to shrink and by 2021 they had a total of 20 stores.
For more than 50 years, Strack & Van Til has been supplying essential products to customers throughout Northwest Indiana and Illinois.
