GameStop is an American video game retailer. They currently have 3,192 stores in the United States and 4,816 worldwide, making them the largest company in their category.
In 1984 James McCurry and Gary Kusin opened their first store, a small educational software retailer called Babbage’s. The next year the company was renamed GameStop, and launched a unique buy - sell - trade program.
GameStop grew quickly, and in 2004 spun off Barnes & Noble. In 2005 it became the world’s largest video game retailer with the acquisition of Electronics Boutique Games. It’s web store first opened in 2011.
